WORKSHOP ISHEP 2010 in Zagreb, Croatia
Interoperability and Standards in Healthcare
– European Perspective
With eHealth as emerging market across Member States and countries around the globe, healthcare stakeholders are experiencing many different positive changes in their every day practice. To quote some of the thoughts from “Together for Health: A Strategic Approach for the EU 2008-2013”, a White Paper published by the European Commission in October 2007, eHealth together with genomics and biotechnologies can improve prevention of illness, delivery of treatment, and support a shift from hospital care to prevention and primary care, which is of paramount importance when it comes to ageing population and impact of chronic diseases to quality of life and costs of care delivery. eHealth in particular is expected to help in providing better citizen-centered care as well as lowering costs and supporting interoperability across national boundaries, facilitating patient mobility and safety.
